Strengthening Climate Action Oxfordshire

Climate Action Oxfordshire has expanded its coordination group, bringing together local councils, community networks, charities, and partnerships to strengthen how people across the county are supported to take practical action on climate and nature.

Climate Action Oxfordshire was created to show that everyone – individuals, communities and organisations – can take meaningful action on climate and nature. Over time, those actions build into something bigger: shared momentum and a growing movement across the county.

We’re excited to share that Climate Action Oxfordshire has recently expanded its coordination group. Alongside Oxfordshire County Council and Oxfordshire’s district councils – West Oxfordshire District Council, Cherwell District Council, South Oxfordshire District Council, Vale of White Horse District Council and Oxford City Council – the group now includes a wide range of local organisations working at the heart of climate and community action.

This expanded group brings together local government, community networks, charities, and partnerships, strengthening how we support people across Oxfordshire to take practical action.

Introducing the group…

Local councils working together

Oxfordshire’s county, district and city councils play a key role in shaping climate action through local services, planning, and policy. Their collaboration ensures that Climate Action Oxfordshire reflects county‑wide priorities while staying grounded in local places and communities.

Wild Oxfordshire

Community Action Groups Oxfordshire

Community Action Groups Oxfordshire (CAG) are a network of over 130 community action groups working across Oxfordshire to make it a safer, fairer, greener, more sustainable place to live, work and visit. Their member groups work in their local communities organising events and projects to take action on issues including waste, transport, food, energy, biodiversity and social justice. Together, they’re building an Oxfordshire with resilient and empowered communities, so that people and planet can thrive within ecological limits.

Hedgerley Wood Trust

The Hedgerley Wood Trust is an Oxfordshire-based charity specialising in world-first innovations for climate and social justice. Its two major projects are: The Mycelium Map, a living, interactive map of organisations with their climate-nature actions, events and stories; and The OneClimate Centre, a media hub showing compelling climate-nature films and holding challenging and inspiring conversations.

CPRE Oxfordshire

CPRE Oxfordshire is the local branch of the Campaign to Protect Rural England. They seek to shape solutions for the sustainable use of land, challenging bad decisions which lead to the loss of countryside and nature and promoting those which protect it. They recognise that climate change is the biggest threat to the countryside – and that the countryside is our most valuable tool in tackling its effects.

Low Carbon Hub

Low Carbon Hub is a social enterprise that’s out to prove we can meet our energy needs in a way that’s good for people and good for the planet. They manage over 50 community-owned renewable energy installations across Oxfordshire and use the surplus they make from these sites to fund more local action on climate change.

Good Food Oxfordshire

Good Food Oxfordshire (GFO) is a county-wide food partnership uniting over 230 organisations to drive lasting change, making healthy, affordable, and sustainable food the norm across Oxfordshire. With 76% of the county’s land dedicated to agriculture, GFO works to reduce the environmental footprint of food production and consumption while strengthening local food networks. Focusing on practical actions in homes, farms, and supply chains, GFO supports efforts to cut food waste, lower emissions, and promote sustainable farming practices. Guided by the Oxfordshire Food Strategy and supported by strong partnerships, GFO is helping build a resilient, locally rooted food system that benefits both people and the planet.

Zero Carbon Oxfordshire Partnership

Zero Carbon Oxfordshire Partnership (ZCOP) is a county‑wide partnership bringing together local authorities, businesses and major organisations to work collectively towards a zero‑carbon and climate‑resilient Oxfordshire by 2050. It coordinates action across key sectors, helping partners align plans, share learning and accelerate emissions reduction through collaboration and joint initiatives.

Why this matters

On 17th March, Climate Action Oxfordshire brought together these partners and more for a collaborative workshop focused on refreshing the website and shaping its next chapter. The session created space to brainstorm and workshop new article ideas and practical actions, drawing on the experience of organisations working across climate, nature, food, energy, and community action. The aim was to breathe new life into the website, ensuring it continues to feel relevant, inspiring, and useful for people across Oxfordshire, and that it better reflects the breadth of local action already happening. The ideas generated will help strengthen the website as a shared resource, supporting more people to see where they can start, take the next step, and feel part of a wider movement for change.

This expanded coordination group reflects what Climate Action Oxfordshire is all about: connection. By bringing together organisations working across energy, food, nature, reuse, community action and local government, we can better show that climate action is not one single path, but many routes moving in the same direction.

For people across Oxfordshire, this means clearer signposts, more support, and more chances to get involved in ways that fit real life. Whether it’s choosing a different way to travel, joining a local group, supporting nature, changing how we use energy, or cutting waste, small actions add up, and show that change is possible.
