Your One-Stop-Shop for Grassroots Climate Events this June 2026
From film screenings and nature walks to repair cafés and community festivals, there’s a huge range of grassroots events happening throughout the county, led by local groups, volunteers, and passionate residents.
A big part of this activity is Great Big Green Week, the UK’s largest celebration of community action to tackle climate change and protect nature. Taking place across the country each June, it brings together communities to showcase local projects, share ideas, and inspire more people to take part. It’s all about showing how small, collective actions can add up to a big difference.
The CAG (Community Action Groups) have shared some words about their experience running some Great Big Green Week events last year:
It was great to get out and about, meeting new people and partners, and of course talking about our projects and events such as our library of things, repair cafés and tech rescues, community sharing projects, badge making, woodworking, wildflower surveys, beekeeping, planter making, lots of great conversations, and many more. We had great feedback from our guests, and useful lessons learned for us on the difference between a straight “learning” session on a focused topic and events which blend fixing and learning on a wider area. We finished Great Big Green Week fired-up by everyone we met and better-prepared to offer skill sharing and outreach events.

Alongside this, a number of groups are hosting screenings of the People’s Emergency Briefing. This is a powerful film bringing together leading voices on climate and nature to communicate the urgency of the crisis, while also focusing on solutions and what people can do. Many of the screenings will be followed by discussions, offering space to connect, reflect, and explore how to take action locally.
Whether you’re looking to learn something new, meet like-minded people, or just spend time outdoors doing something positive, there’s something for everyone. These events are a great reminder that climate action happens right here in our communities, every day. What’s clear from the line-up below is just how varied and welcoming these events are. They’re social, practical, thought-provoking, and, importantly, open to everyone. So if you’ve been meaning to get more involved, this is a great place to start.
