Redirect is a new kind of social platform built not for clicks and advertising, but for community and climate action. Hyperlocal and purpose-built for sustainability, it connects people across Oxfordshire with local events, volunteering opportunities, and community-led initiatives. Unlike mainstream platforms, it rewards you for getting involved locally, rather than just scrolling.

Created by an Oxford University researcher in sustainability and systems change, Redirect grew out of a frustration with digital spaces that promote consumption over connection. It is currently piloting in Oxfordshire, with over 1,000 local engagement opportunities listed and a growing community of users.

CLIMATE IMPACT

Finding the right opportunities close to home can be the hardest part of taking climate action. Redirect brings everything together in one place: repair cafés, community growing projects, energy co-ops, nature restoration days, and more, all organised by verified local groups. Users can track their personal impact over time and see the collective difference the entire community is making.

For Individuals

Sign up for free to get a feed of local sustainability events, save activities to your personal calendar, earn points towards rewards at local businesses, and connect with like-minded people and organisations nearby. No app download needed. Redirect is fully web-based, though you can add it as a shortcut to your device's home screen.

For Community Groups

Redirect gives sustainability-focused groups a purpose-built platform to reach local residents who are actively looking to get involved. List your events, grow your member base, and connect with other organisations working toward similar goals. 

FAQs

Is it free? Free for individual users. Community groups join free too, though small fees may be introduced for organisations in future, with a focus on keeping it accessible to groups of all sizes and budgets.

How is it different from other social media? No advertising, no data selling, and no algorithms designed to maximise screen time. Redirect is focused entirely on building stronger communities locally and for sustainability action.

What kinds of activities are listed? Events and activities from verified local organisations connected to sustainability: climate talks, repair cafes, community gardens, energy advice sessions, biodiversity projects, and more.

How do rewards work? Engaging with activities earns you points redeemable at local, sustainability-minded businesses, as a small recognition of the time people give to their communities.

Can I track my impact? Yes, you can manage your upcoming events, track your personal impact over time, and see the aggregated impact of the whole Redirect community.

Who can see my activity? Users who follow you will see your activity, as on other social platforms. You have control over who follows you and who you follow.

What if I live outside Oxfordshire? Redirect is currently piloting in Oxfordshire, with plans to expand to other UK counties and eventually further afield.
